Scandal At President’s Office: Bamba Is Sacrificial Lamb – Mahama

National Democratic Congress Director of Communications John Mahama has described the immediate past Deputy Minister for Presidential Affairs Alhaji Moctar Bamba as a sacrificial lamb in the NPP’s attempt to rid itself of the growing allegations of corruption.

The Wenchi East Minister resigned last Friday after admitting to indiscretions in his business dealings.

But Mahama said it was strange that the NPP government had not acted in several instances of corruption that has been alleged against some of its functionaries.

He cited the Serious Fraud Office (SFO) report on the Tema Municiapl Assembly (TMA), the allegations of corruption against the ex-Mfantsiman District Chief Executive ( DCE), Kofi Wilson, who is said to have awarded contracts to himself, allegations of corruption against the Yilo Krobo DCE and that of the Free Zones among others as cases that had received no attention from the President.

Mahama said Bamba’s case had received immediate attention because of his closeness to the Presidency.

Bamba was exposed by the Ghanaian Chronicle newspaper for getting involved in some shady business deals.

Mahama said the government was so embarrassed by the exposure and behaviour of the deputy minister so much that they have adopted to diversionary tactics to take attention from the case.

He claims that an auditor general report which has asked minority leader Alban Bagbin to refund 66 million cedis which it says was unauthorised expenditure from the Ghana Ports and Habours Authority was politically motivate.

”It is a diversion tactic and politically motivated, Mahama asserted adding that ” , he said. ”We know how the report got to the Ghana News Agency.”
