Four shot in NDC, NPP clashes in Central Region

Four people have sustained gunshot wounds after some members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) clashed on Sunday, December 11 at Ekumfi-Esuehyia in the Central Region.

Class FM’s Central regional correspondent, Raymond Kwofie, said some residents attributed the violence to the refusal of officials of the Electoral Commission (EC) to heed demands by defeated incumbent NDC Member of Parliament (MP) Abeiku Crentsil for a recount of the ballot.

Supporters of the MP-elect, Ato Kudjo, prevented a recount of the parliamentary votes despite pressure from followers of the incumbent MP on Friday, December 9.

The tension continued on Saturday, resulting in an NDC car being set ablaze.

There was a clash between the supporters again on Sunday amidst the firing of gunshots.

The District Police Commander for Mankessim, ASP Kofi Maya, who spoke to Prince Minkah on Class FM’s Executive Breakfast show on Monday, December 12, confirmed that some individuals had been wounded from the gunshots.

“Four people lodged a complaint, so we have given them medical forms to return this morning (Monday, December 12) for continuation of the investigation,” he said.

According to him, police patrol teams had been dispatched as calm returns to the area.

He assured that the police would do everything possible to bring the culprits to book.
