Wa RTTC trains 120 unemployed youth

Wa, Jan. 20, GNA – The Wa Regional Technology Transfer Centre has under the Skills Training and Employment Placement (STEP) of the Ministry of Manpower Development and Employment trained 120 unemployed youth to become self-reliant.

The trainees, who are in batches of 15 students, have undergone three-month intensive training in batik, tie and dye making, weaving and other programmes.

Mr P.A. Adasi, Regional Manager of RTTC in a letter copied to the media houses in the region stated that two batches had so far been trained.

He said under the package, trainees were given initial capital to initiate their own enterprises and urged all beneficiaries to form groups and cooperatives so that they could attract assistance from financial institutions.

Mr Adasi said a total of 55 rural people including women have also be trained in beekeeping at Samoa and Sabuli in the Jirapa/Lambussie and Nadowli Districts, respectively.

He explained that the training programmes apart from equipping participants with skills to be self-reliant would also open up job opportunities for a lot of the unemployed youth in the Region. “If a lot more young people are actively engaged in skill training programmes, job opportunities would be created while criminal activities would also reduce as the youth would engage in positive development rather than stealing and burgling.”
