No ID card No Vote – EC

Registered voters who may misplace their new voter identification cards to be issued this year risk losing their votes during the general elections.

This is because new procedures on voter registration by the Electoral Commission (EC) might delay timely replacement of lost cards before the elections.

The voter registration is expected to be carried out during the first quarter of this year at the cost of ?113 billion.

Mr. Kwadwo Sarfo-Kantanka, the Deputy Commissioner of the EC in-charge of operations, disclosed this during a lecture at the 55th Annual New Year School at the University of Ghana.

Mr. Kantanka said two photographs would be taken of each prospective voter. One would be used to produce the Voter Identification Card while the other would be taken to the head office to develop a database.

He said this measure is to ensure that people do not deliberately go to the district offices to report that their ID cards were lost when infact they possessed them.
