Ignore poll predictions – Kwakye Ofosu

There is the need for the electorate in Ghana to ignore all the pre-election surveys pointing to which direction the December 7 elections will go, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, a Deputy Minister of Communications, has said.

According to him, the surprise outcome of the US election of Tuesday November 8, which saw Donald Trump winning, has made nonsense of projections, most of which tipped Hilary Clinton to win.

Here in Ghana, the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) has twice predicted victory for the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) in December’s presidential elections.

However, Mr Kwakye Ofosu took to Facebook to express his views on poll predictions, saying: “The only poll that matters is the one that takes place on election day.”

He further stated: “Donald Trump has won fair and square despite being at the receiving end of glaring media and civil society bias. In the process, he has made complete nonsense of almost every poll that said he would lose.

“I have always maintained that the only poll that matters is the one that takes place on election day. The media is only a filter and any party relying on them to propel them to victory would be making a sad mistake. So let those overconfident party supporters who think they are in the Flagstaff House, even before the first ballot is cast, take heed.”
