Suspected cattle rustler shot dead

An unidentified Fulani man suspected to be a member of a cattle rustling gang operating in the Upper West Region was shot dead when he allegedly entered a kraal at Kpankoli, a farming community in the Wa Municipality ostensibly to seal the animals.

Briefing the Ghana News Agency at Wa, Inspector Daniel Dorkpoh, the Regional Police Public Relations Officer said the deceased believed to be in his thirties, in the company of two other accomplices at about 2.30 a.m on Sunday December 7, entered the kraal ostensibly to steal the animals.

He said luck however, eluded them as the owner of the kraal Sunroo Sunpoa, who was guarding the kraal from a nearby hut, fired a warning shot with his single barrelled gun which made the other two accomplices to flee into the bush, leaving the deceased who drew a sharp dagger from his pair of trousers and threatened to stab him.

Inspector Dorkpoh added that the Fulani man, who was determined to harm the cattle owner advanced towards him but he was shot dead instantly. The cattle owner later reported the incident to the police, and was arrested and charged with murder.

Sunpoa has a already made his first appearance before the Wa circuit court and was remanded in prison custody pending further investigations into the case.
