Aliu advises personnel at the frontiers to cooperate with neighbours

Hamile (U/W), Dec. 1, GNA- Vice President Aliu Mahama has called on security personnel at various entry-points of the country to conduct themselves well to attract revenue from neighbouring countries.

He said most neighbouring countries such as Burkina Faso, la Cote d’Ivoire and Mali were now doing business at the Ports and Harbours in Ghana and that it was necessary for the security to deal friendly with them to encourage them to continue to work in the country.

The Vice President was interacting with security personnel at the Hamile frontier in the Jirapa-Lambussie District during his three-day visit to the Upper West Region.

“Hamile is a mini ECOWAS for us Ghanaians and we shall do our best to give the township a facelift to attract the business community and investors,” Alhaji Mahama said adding that Hamile town roads had been awarded on contract for tarring whilst more funds were being sought to link it to neighbouring Burkina Faso.

Alhaji Aliu commended the people of Hamile, a community of different ethnic and religious backgrounds, for their unity and religious tolerance.

He gave the assurance that the government would do it’s best to facilitate the activities of security personnel to bring more income into the region.

Mr Seth Dovlo, Sector Commander of Customs, Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS), said the region had exceeded this year’s revenue target of 386 million cedis by 15 percent as at October.

He attributed their good performance to the provision of four-wheel vehicles to almost all the districts in the region.

Mr Dovlo said the sector was expecting more motorbikes before the close of the year and expressed the hope that it would enhance their performance next year.

The Vice President also visited Fielimuo, Lambussie and Brutu.
