Korle-Bu Hospital Trust Fund Board inaugurated

Ghana’s premier hospital, the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital has inaugurated a nine-member Board of Trustees tasked to mobilise and manage the resources of the Hospital Trust Fund.

The Trust Fund, launched in March, this year,is an investible fund that is meant to mobilise resources to support needy patients as well as provide equipment and infrastructure, aimed at improving the health needs of patients.

The fund is also to complement government’s effort in bringing patients’ care to a desirable level.

The Board of Trustees is made up of Justice SenyoDzamefe, a Justice of the Court of Appeal; Nana Obokomatta IX, Amankorahene of GomoaAkyimpim Traditional Council; Mr Thomas Swaniker, Chairman of Global Strategic Ventures Limited; NiiNikoiAmasa, Corporate Monitoring Manager of Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority; and Ms Rebecca Okai, a Procurement Specialist, Ministry of Communications’ E-Transform Project.

The rest are Dr. Joseph SiawAgyepong , Executive Chairman of Jospong Group of Companies; Seth AdjeiBaah, Chairman of Shaaba Group; Lawrence Addo, Managing Directorof Relish Health Foods Limited and Dr. Gilbert Buckle, Chief Executive Officer of Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) as a member.

Speaking at the inauguration, Mr Alex Segbefia, Minister for Health,advised the trustees to let transparency and accountability be their hallmark since they are capable of handling the affairs of the fund.

He called on the trustees to use the initiative by the hospital to help mother Ghana and humanity in Ghana and beyond.

“The things that will inspire people to support and donate to the Trust Fund will be transparency, honesty and accountability”, he stressed, urging the trustees to hold these values firmly and let them guide them in all their activities.

In spite of the massive injection of resources into Ghana’s premier teaching hospital, he said there was still the need for more support to enable Korle Bu maintain its leadership role in providing quality healthcare services.

He used the opportunity to corporate bodies to donate generously to the Korle-Bu Trust Fund to provide training, equipment and infrastructure for the hospital.
