Suame: Mum says police beat son to death

Samuel Owusu, 30, a native of Akyease in the Ashanti Region, has died as a result of an assault by police at Suame, Kumasi.

According to Boss FM’s Akyeamkwaa Nana Kofi Asare, some officers from the Suame Police command on June 20, 2016, arrested Owusu on suspicion of dealing in substances suspected to be Indian hemp, popularly referred to as ‘wee’. He was put behind bars at the Suame Police Station, where he suffered the brutalities.

The mother of the deceased, Akosua Konadu, told ClassFMonline.com that police searched the room of her son, but found no Indian hemp. However, they took him to the police station and forced a confession out of him.

She further said when her son was released, the family took him to a hospital at Akyease but was discharged after treatment. However, he later died in his room. As far as she is concerned, it was the brutality suffered at the hands of the police that led to her son’s death.
