There have been four confirmed cases of Yellow Fever over the past four weeks in the country, the Ghana Health Service has confirmed.
Three of the cases were reported in the Brong Ahafo Region while one was reported in the Volta Region.
According to a release by the Director General of the Service, Dr Ebenzer Appiah-Denkyira, the three cases in the Brong Ahafo Region were recorded in the Jamang South District.
The Central Tongu District in the Volta Region recorded one case.
The Service, however, called for calm as the widespread vaccination undertaken in 2011 in those districts is offering immunity to most people.
“The Yellow Fever vaccine is protective for life.”
Yellow Fever is a viral hemorrhagic disease.
It is spread through the bite of an infected Aedes mosquito.
Yellow Fever causes bleeding which may come out from any of the body openings.
The symptoms may also include fever with jaundice in the early stages and with multiple organ dysfunctions resulting in kidney and liver failure.
Prevention is by vaccination.
