Accra, Sept. 30, GNA – The United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) have been training the Ghana Police on the detection of cyber and internet crimes, Nana Owusu Nsiah, Inspector General of Police (IGP), told the GNA on Tuesday.
He said one of the major policies of the Ghana Police Service was to train Policemen through seminars and courses to be able to fight cyber and Internet related crimes.
The IGP dropped the hint when a three-man delegation of the FBI training the Police paid a courtesy on him in Accra. Nana Owusu Nsiah said there was the need to take personnel of the Service through courses and seminars to update them on crimes committed through the Internet.
He said the recent spate of cyber and Internet crimes called for the course for twenty men and women from the Police service. The Service had earlier run courses with support from the UNDP that took the Police through courses on administration, crime prevention and investigations.
Nana Owusu Nsiah advised people who have relatives outside the country to find out from them before giving in to “419′ operatives. Mr. Michael Bonner, Head of Legal Attache for West Africa, Lagos, said the frequent occurrence of cyber and Internet crimes have led to the education of the Ghana Police Service on the issue.
