Taxi driver granted bail for careless driving

A Tarkwa circuit court has granted bail to a driver in the sum of GH¢ 12,000.00 with two sureties for careless and inconsiderate driving and negligently causing harm.

The accused, Abraham Ankomah, 32, pleaded not guilty to the charges and would re-appear before the court on May 25.

Prosecuting, Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah, told the court that on August 28 last year, at about 2020 hours, the accused was driving a Kia Safari Taxi with registration number GE 8552Z with five passengers on board from Atieku to Damang in the Prestea Huni-Valley District.

On reaching a section of the road near the Golden Star Resources Mining Company, Ankomah spotted Dogbevia Dzorkwa riding a bicycle declining a hill at top speed and knocked down Dzorkwa.

Detective Chief Inspector Amponsah said the victim sustained various degrees of injuries and was rushed to the Church of Christ Hospital at Ateiku, for medical attention.

He was later referred to the Cape Coast Government Hospital where he was admitted and had his left-arm amputated.

After police investigations, Ankomah was charged with the offence and prosecuted accordingly.
