Acting national chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Freddie Blay has strongly dismissed claims that the party’s main campaign message for the 2016 elections is appealing to Ghanaians to also “try” their flagbearer.
The three-time flagbearer of the NPP Nana Akufo-Addo has on numerous occasions urged electorates to “try him too” as the nation prepares for a general elections in November.
“This year, try me too. Give me the chance to show you what I can do. Four years is not so far away. If I come and I don’t succeed, kick me out. God knows my heart and I can assure you that I won’t disappoint you. Progress and prosperity are what I am offering the people of Ghana,” the former attorney general told chiefs in the Brong Ahafo region in a recent meeting.
The consistency of the appeal has sparked speculations that “try me too” appears to be the official campaign message of the elephant family.
But speaking to Nii Arday Clegg on the Morning Starr Tuesday, Mr. Blay said the NPP and its flagbearer have solid campaign messages that will convince the electorates.
“Akufo-Addo is an experienced politician. He has lot of messages that Ghanaians can buy into and Ghanaians know him for his capabilities. What do they mean “try me” is his only message? He has a lot of messages for Ghanaians; the “Try Me” message being carried around by some people is below the belt,” he stated.
