MP appeals to assemblies to form virgin clubs

Akropong (Ash), Sept 13, GNA- Mr James Adusei-Sarkodie, Member of Parliament (MP) for Atwima-Nwabiagya, has urged District Assemblies to form virgin clubs as a means of fighting the HIV/AIDS.

He also asked the Ghana AIDS Commission (GAC), Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and Community-Based Organisations (CBOs) to use some of their resources to support the virgin clubs.

Opening a youth counselling centre on Tuesday at Akropong in the Atwima District, he said attempts be made by the assemblies, the GAC, NGOs and CBOs to stem the spread of the pandemic.

Mr Samuel Mfum, Project Co-ordinator of Global Horizon Movement, said the movement in collaboration with GAC, the Atwima district assembly and stakeholders took the initiative to open the centre to equip and empower the youth to make informed choice and enhance their health. He said about 1,000 pupils from basic schools in the district have been selected to support the work of the centre.
