Teacher Trainees across the country have been asked by school authorities to pay for feeding and utility fees.
This is as a result of delay on the part of government in releasing grants for the payment of feeding and utility fees for the various teacher training colleges in the country.
Members of the Teacher Trainees Association of Ghana are appealing to government to as a matter of urgency release their feeding grant arrears.
Addressing Journalists at a press conference in Ho, the President of the Volta chapter of the association, Melesusu Elikem Derrick, explained that government has defaulted in the payment of their feeding grants for three semesters.
Speaking to Ultimate news’, the President of the Association said the delay in the release of the grants has compelled their Principals to include feeding fees on their bills.
He further claimed that the Trainees are being billed for utility bills as government has also failed to disburse utility subventions to the various colleges.
‘When I talk of our demands it has to do with non-payment of our feeding grants, and issues concerning utility, government is throwing pure dust in the eyes of Ghanaians by telling them that it has been feeding us with three square meal a day,’ he explained.
