Use of rapid diagnostic test for malaria improving

Hope for Future Generations (HFFG) a health focused non-governmental organisation, has noted an improvement in the use of rapid diagnostic test and microscopes in the treatment of malaria in the Volta Region.

Ms Rita Lododnu, HFFG Malaria Project Coordinator for the Region said a cursory observation indicated that most public health facilities, especially in the peri-urban centres are going by the testing, treatment and tracking trends as required by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

Ms Lodonu was addressing a seminar for nurses and other healthcare providers in Ho on malaria and the WHO protocol.

She said: “So far so good. Checks show that things are getting better. There is a massive improvement.”

Ms Lodonu said the situation is having positive impact on healthcare delivery and urged healthcare providers to stick to the “3Ts”.

She underscored the importance of testing before treatment and urged care givers not to compromise on standard.

Ms Lodonu asked the public to demand the right to be tested before treatment to ensure that they receive the required treatment.

She said HFFG is collaborating with the Ghana Health Service to track information on all reported cases of malaria to ascertain adherence to the treatment protocol.

Ms Lodonu said HFFG with support from the British Department for International Development is sensitising communities and schools on the importance for testing before treatment and the need to use Long Lasting Insecticide Nets.
