Porter in Court over drugs

A Kumasi Circuit Court has remanded Ibrahim Abdul – Manan, a 22 year-old porter, charged with possessing a substance suspected to be narcotics, into prison custody.

A resident of Allabar Kumasi, Addul Manan is to reappear before court, presided over by Justice Ekow Mensah on Thursday, December 10.

His plea was not taken.

Police Chief Inspector Felix Akowuah, holding brief for Superintendent Emmanuel Akunnor, told the court that the complainant in this case was an official of the Drug Law Enforcement Unit (DLEU), Kumasi.

He said on November 18, at about 2000 hours, the personnel at the Unit and other policemen acting upon intelligence went to Allabar, Kumasi.

They spotted Abdul-Manan with a transparent polybag containing foil wraps of substances suspected to be narcotic drugs, ready to serve buyers.

Chief Inspector Akowuah said Abdul-Manan in the course of being pursued by the Police, threw the polybag under a metal structure but he was arrested.

The police then retrieved the polybag and found 39 foil wraps of powdery substances suspected to be narcotics in them.

Upon interrogation, Abdul-Manan admitted ownership and mentioned one “Smoke” as his supplier, but he could not assist the Police in locating him.

Meanwhile, Chief Inspector Akowuah said the substance has been forwarded to the Police Forensic Science laboratory for examination.
