Foundation supports 35 students with GH¢38,000

Thirty-five students selected from senior high schools (SHS) across the Ashanti Region have received a total of GH¢38,000 in support of their education.

This was from Women Empowerment Foundation International (WEFI), an NGO that brings together women in business and various profession.

Mrs. Naomi Opoku-Agyemang, the Executive Secretary, handed over a cheque for the amount in a ceremony held at the Sekyedumase SHS.

She said their goal was to assist more girls to pursue academic careers to fight poverty and make the economic situation of Ghanaian women better.

Among the beneficiaries were few boys and this was to encourage them to take to academic programmes traditionally dominated by the female.

The package would provide relief to parents, finding it difficult to pay the fees of their children.

Mrs. Opoku-Agyemang gave the assurance that WEFI would continue to be involved in efforts at promoting education and vocational training.

They would pool resources to build classrooms and help to make the school environment friendly to both the children and their teachers.

Established five years ago, WEFI has been supporting women through entrepreneurship and agriculture.

Regina Adjei, one of the beneficiary students, thanked the NGO for the assistance and pledged to work hard to live their academic dreams.
