Area Councils asked to assist in revenue mobilization

District Chief Executive (DCE) for Afigya-Kwabre, Mr. Kwaku Oppong-Kyekyeku Kaakyire, has asked members of the Area Councils to provide strong support to the assembly to improve its revenue collection performance.

They should do everything to assist to collect rates and levies in their various communities to bring development to the people.

Mr. Oppong-Kyekyeku was speaking at a ceremony held to officially inaugurate the Kodie Area Council and swear-in members of the unit committee in the area.

The council is composed of 12 members – four of them assembly members, and the remaining eight, unit committee members – all drawn from Kodie, Aduman, Apagya and Akrowa-Mowire electoral areas.

The DCE reminded them to educate and help the people to have better understanding of the assembly’s policies and programmes together with its bye-laws.

They should not dabble in chieftaincy and land disputes and to make sure that they operated within the confines of the law.

He asked them not to be part of anything likely to create confusion and division among the people.

He also advised against usurping the powers of the assembly, telling them to seek clarification of any issue they might be having a difficulty with.

The DCE said the expectation was that they would remain non-partisan in the performance of their duties and accept to work hard with commitment to promote socio-economic development.

Mr. Anthony Oteng, the Presiding Member, urged them to work with unity of purpose and to stay in close touch with the people to better articulate their concerns and development aspirations.

Afigya-Kwabre with 42 electoral areas has eight Area Councils.
