ECG arrests caretaker of MP’s house

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in the Volta Region has arrested Yao Abielekpor, a caretaker of the residence of Mr Clement Kofi Humado, Member of Parliament (MP) for Anlo, for allegedly diverting power from the MP’s residence to power a water pump to irrigate his (Abielekpor’s) vegetable farm.

The Company also arrested three other domestic power users for illegal connection of power.

Officials of ECG said Abielekpor’s diversion did not go through a meter, indicating that Abielekpor was using the power for free.

Mr Richard Bavor, Regional Head of Loss Control Unit, ECG said aside a surcharge of GHc 2,345.52, Abielekpor would be prosecuted for stealing power.

He said Abielekpor was arrested by the Company for a similar offence some months ago and warned after he was made to pay for the stolen power.

Mr Joseph Forson, Regional Manager, ECG, said the monitoring exercise was being roped into the routine operations of the Company.
