Update: Police secures injunction to stop LMVC demo

An Accra Circuit Court has granted an injunction filed by the Police Service to stop the Let My Vote Count Alliance picketing at the Electoral Commission on Tuesday.

The decision quashes an earlier ruling by an Accra Magistrate Court which ruled that it cannot grant the permission of the police because the motion they filed had expired.

The Circuit Court in its ruling has also asked the group not to embark on any other demonstration until October.

The group scheduled their next demonstration aimed at pushing the EC to create a new voters’ register ahead of the 2016 elections for tomorrow, Tuesday, September 29.

The Police have, however, insisted that the objective of the group in insisting on picketing at the EC office is to cause damage to the equipment of the electoral body.
