Drug Awareness Drug Awareness walk held in Accra

The Recovery Ghana Consortium in collaboration with other organizations including the Ghana Prison Service on Saturday embarked on a two and half hour walk to create awareness on drug addiction in Accra.

The walk was aimed at making Ghanaians aware that drug addiction can be reversed for full recovery.

The Drug Addiction Awareness walk drew people from all walks of life, and started from the Liberty Avenue Cluster of Schools in Accra, through the streets of Tudu, the Accra Polytechnic area, Kinbu and finally converged at the Art Centre, near the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum.

Some of the placards displayed by participants read: “Drug addiction can result in tension in the family”, “Recovery is everybody’s business”, “Drug users need support to recover and not punishment” and “Live a drug-free life”.

The participants gave out flyers on drug abuse, it’s prevention and cure as they walked through the principal streets of Accra.

Reverend Patrick Adjei Acheampong from the Ghana Blue Cross, who addressed the participants, said for the first time in Ghana, voluntary organizations in the fight against alcoholism and other drugs have come together to create awareness on alcoholism and drug abuse.

He expressed the hope that the drug awareness walk will have a positive impact on society and bring down the level of alcohol and drug addiction in the country.
