Mr James Gunu, the Akatsi North District Chief Executive (DCE), has entreated newly elected assembly members to come to the Assembly with the same zeal with which they entered the recent District Level Elections.
He also asked them to use their ‘honey moon’-days-before their inauguration to mobilize their people and all losing candidates for developmental work.
The DCE was interacting with all 12 male-elected Members and the 21 defeated candidates, including one female, in the recent elections in his area.
Electoral officials and the security were also at the meeting held at Ave-Afiadenyigba.
“I call to congratulate you for availing yourselves for the sacrificial job to serve your people, plus the peaceful manner you conducted yourselves in the polls, including the excellent work by the security and poll officials”, he said.
Mr. Gunu said “the void created by the absence of Assembly Members for effective Assembly work due to the postponement of the previous elections, leaves a huge backlog of work that must go, so the new ones must be briefed to come with their loins tightened up for the task – fully prepared.”
He briefed the participants on completed and ongoing projects in the area such as road, water, health, security, sanitation, economic and educational projects, the flagship ones being a 40-room stall market complex, district Assembly Hall complex, district police post, units of staff quarters as well as future projections.
He bemoaned the poor revenue state and low agricultural productivity in the area and asked the elected members to stimulate rate and bills payments in their people.
“I appreciate your zeal and let us all work together to sustain the forward march of our young district due to the hard work of Assembly Members”, he said.
Mr. Gunu, donated five street lights to each of the 12 elected Assembly Members to be installed in their communities, and said he delayed giving out the lamps until after the elections to avoid it being seen as an attempt by the Assembly to give undue advantage to members seeking re-election.
