GPRTU dissociates self from strike

Mr Stephen Okudzeto, General Secretary of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), has asked its members not to take part in an impending sit-down-strike by some taxi drivers.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency on Wednesday, he said taxi drivers of the Union were law-abiding, because they knew the procedures for seeking redress as far as the GPRTU Constitution was concerned.

Mr Okudzeto said if some members of the Union were not satisfied with a decision taken by a local branch, they should refer the matter to the supervising region.

“And if the members are still not satisfied at the region, they shall appeal to the National Executive Council (NEC) for redress.

He urged members to ignore completely any call by the “Committed Drivers Association” for a sit-down-strike on Monday.

The General Secretary warned that any member of the GPRTU who subverted any portion of the Constitution would be found guilty of misconduct, and would face expulsion.
