The Meridian Presbytery Church Choirs’ Union of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, is to build a conference hall and a hostel at Gbetsile, near Afienya in the Greater Accra Region, to ensure the smooth propagation of the gospel and music.
Mr Luke Damalie, President of the Union, disclosed this at the opening of the First Conference of the Union in Accra.
The four-day conference which is on the theme: “”Go, make Disciples, Ye Choristers through Singing,” is aimed at raising funds for the early completion of the projects.
Mr Damalie charged Christians to use music as an effective tool of communicating with God.
He said music played a very important role in the socio-economic development of every community, and that, without music it would be very difficult for a nation to be developed.
Mr Damalie said music inspired, united, educated, entertained, and above all, it gave hope to the hopeless.
He charged the choristers to remain committed to their work at all times, and also desist from negative tendencies that may bring the good name of the union into disrepute.
Reverend Dr B.D.K. Agbeko, Meridian Presbytery Synod Moderator of the Church, said the conference the first ever since the re-demarcation of the former West Volta Presbytery, was very significant.
He reminded the choristers that their traditional task was to minister through songs and hymns that inspired, encouraged, educated and admonished listeners, “you will do more by practising the contents of the songs you sing.”” You would also have to be receptive to change as we all explore new and relevant ways of making good things happen in the Presbytery and the church as a whole.
Rev. Agbeko urged them to keep the faith and spread it faithfully and wholeheartedly through song ministration.
