The Upper East branch of the Legal Aid Board has embarked on an educational campaign in the region to educate the people on the work of the Board. The campaign will include fora, talks, seminars and symposia for community heads, opinion leaders and religious groups. The Regional Director of the Board, Mr.. John Ajet-Nasam said the aim of the Board is to provide legal advice and assistance to those who could be deprived of their legal and human rights because they cannot pay for such services. He said legal aid services are available to any person who earns less than the government approved minimum wage of ?12,000.00 and deserves legal presentation in matters that are criminal or civil in nature. The Director said the Board has successfully handled 1,033 cases since its inception in April this year. Mr.. Ajet-Nasam said the cases, which range from criminal to civil matters were settled both in and out of court. He mentioned lack of office accommodation for the Board as the major problem that is hindering its operation.
