Mr Joseph H. Mensah, Former Chairman of the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) has advised the Commission to prioritise and sustain the expected 40-year developmental policy framework Draft.
Mr Mensah told the Commission that for many years now, implementing developmental policies has not been the problem, but rather how to sustain them.
He said this at a meeting with the Commission in Accra, when members of the Commission sought his advice and consent on the developmental plan, as a veteran in Ghana’s political economy.
“As a nation, we keep changing developmental plans and therefore have too many on and offs; therefore the main problem that needs to be looked at is sustenance’, he said.
Mr Mensah said if measures are put underway to sustain the plans, then the nation can think of something significant towards its development.
“But if we keep on changing developmental plans, I am afraid; the country would fall into a trap”.
He gave his blessings to the NDPC for taking such a positive initiative to support the nation and wished them a fruitful launch and operation.
Dr Nii Moi Thompson, Director General of the NDPC assured Mr Mensah of the Commission preparedness to go every mile to develop the nation just as they have been mandated by the constitution.
He said the Commission has received the support of ex Presidents Jerry John Rawlings and John Agyekum Kuffuor, the Speaker of Parliament and the Chief Justice.
The long term developmental policy framework or plan is an initiative that the Commission has planned to launch on August 4, 2015 and implement through a national consultation and demands of the constitution, to ensure continuity, development and stability in governance of the country.
