Court remands four over suspected robbery

A Kumasi Circuit Court has remanded into prison custody, four persons who allegedly imposed a reign of terror and robbed the people of Manso-Tontokro, a small-scale mining community in the Amansie-West District.

The pleas of Ebenezer Kwame Dapaah, 28, Yussif Issah alias Shatta Wale, 20, Kwame Awuah alias Adeiba, 26 and Yaw Isaac, alias Yaw Krobo, 22, were not taken.

They have been charged with conspiracy, possession of fire arms and robbery and would reappear on June 22.

Meanwhile the police are on the heels of one accomplice, known as Christian alias ‘Cri.’

Police Chief Inspector Timothy Amoako told the Court that on October 12, 2014 at about 1600 hours the accused persons donning military uniforms and Zoomlion outfits, amid sporadic gunshots committed the robbery.

They attacked and stole raw gold, seven motor bikes and a number of mobile phones belonging to Akwasi Abane, Yaw Asawolgo and six others all workers of Apikus Ventures, a mining company at Tontokrom.

The Court presided over by Madam Comfort Tasiame heard that community members then organised themselves to the aid of the victims who are complainants in the case and Dapaah was arrested, disarmed and handed over to the police.

In his caution statement, Dapaah admitted firing gun shots with a locally-made pistol at the scene.

During investigations, Issah, Awuah and Isaac were also arrested and did not deny not the offence.

The accused persons claimed they bought the uniforms from the open market.
