Christians have been advised not to participate in any form of political violence no matter the level of provocation.
They should show the way by championing peace and harmony as ambassadors of Christ to bring sanity in the political discourse of the country.
Rev. Kwaku Twum-Barimah, the Chairman of the Asante Akyem Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG), who made the call, stressed the need for Christians to make positive impact in Ghana’s body politic.
He said the role of the church in national development could be undermined when individual Christians in various political parties involved themselves in political violence.
He was speaking at the 25th anniversary celebration of the Presbytery at Konongo on the theme “Come Holy Spirit, Give us Love”.
Rev. Twum-Barimah said the silver jubilee marked 25 years since it weaned itself from the Asante Presbytery.
He said despite chalking significant successes over the years, the Presbytery still had challenges with its finances and urged members of the church to support in that area.
He called for unity and hard work among members of the church to move the Presbytery to a higher level by its 50th milestone.
Mr. De-graft Fokuo, the District Chief Executive for Asante Akim south praised the Presby Church for its contribution to nation building in the areas of education and health.
He said government acknowledged the role of the church in national development and pledged government’s resolve to improve the living conditions of Ghanaians.
