President John Dramani Mahama will this morning travel to Lome, Togo, to continue his consultation with key political stakeholders ahead of the country’s elections in April.
Togo’s election, originally slated for April 15, 2015 was postponed to April 25, 2015 following recommendations by President Mahama who is the Chairman of the Authority of ECOWAS Heads of State and Government. Speaking to reporters after a one day working visit to Lome in March, Mr. Mahama said, “as a result, ECOWAS proposes that the election is delayed by 10 days to allow the election list to be revised so everyone is satisfied.”
Today’s consultations are to help ECOWAS determine the level of preparations and the satisfaction of the various political parties contesting the polls.”
From Lome, President Mahama will continue to Abuja, Nigeria, for meetings with the outgoing President, Goodluck Jonathan, and the President-elect, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (Rtd.).
President Mahama will also discuss the upcoming 40th Anniversary of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), which will be hosted by Nigeria in May.
