Speaker complains: We’ve monetised Ghanaian politics

Speaker of Parliament, Edward Doe Adjaho has conceded that Ghanaian politicians have all played a role in monetising the country’s politics.

“We have monetised politics, all of us,” he told the parliamentary press Corp Wednesday during the inauguration of a leadership for the journalists.

“If you don’t pay, they won’t vote for you,” Mr Adjaho bemoaned.

The Speaker said: “As somebody that has devoted my youthful years to this position, my worry is: ‘Where are we going as a country?’

“Our people may say it is the quality of our MPs but I can tell you that it is not the quality of MPs, because we have very good materials in the current MPs,” he asserted.

The Speaker has therefore urged his colleague politicians to help purge Ghana’s politics of the canker, which he warned could destroy the country’s democratic credentials.
