Hawa Yakubu, Tagoe Clash

Proceedings in Parliament during last Wednesday’s emergency sitting on the Dagbon crisis was nearly marred when the two strong women of the NPP in Parliament, nearly engaged in fisticuffs. The two, Miss Theresa Tagoe, MP for Ablekuma South and Hawa Yakubu, MP for Bawku Central were seen in dramatic exchanges with Hawa nearly landing a blow in the face of Theresa Tagoe.

The incident occurred at a time when Honourable Victor Gbeho was on the floor urging both parties to eschew party squabbles and find constructive ways of solving the issue.

Upon this, Hon Balabo Manu raised a point of correction and asked Mr Gbeho to mention those playing politics with the matter. In replying him, he said ”When the dogs are barking, let the chariots move on”.

At this time, Hawa Yakubu was seen in her seat pleading with the majority to avoid the jokes and be serious amidst shouting from her colleagues from the majority.

But Theresa Tagoe allegedly said that Hawa was tribalising the issue. Hawa inturn replied that Theresa was trivializing the issue. This generated a debate between the two women. Theresa then attempted to pull Hawa who stood up to make a statement to resume her seat. But Hawa threw her right hand and had it not been for the timely intervention of Nana Akomea, something nasty might have happened. He escorted Hawa Yakubu out of the chamber.
