Minister calls for women participation in elections

Mr Antwi-Boasiako Sekyere, the Eastern Regional Minister, has said there was the need to step up advocacy to encourage more women to get into politics especially at the grassroots level.

“It’s a wish to have more women in politics especially in the district level election, but we cannot force the women, we only have to step up the advocacy to ensure that they understand the dynamics,” he said in an interview.

He appealed to all stakeholders to get involved in the advocacy to increase the level of women participation in elections.

On the Upcoming district and unit committee elections itself, the regional minister urge the public to show interest in the elections because the district level election was important since it provided the structure for district level development.

Mr Sekyere said for every democracy to thrive, grassroots participation was critical and therefore called on the public to same interest and enthusiasm and they showed in general elections.
