Kwabre health staff praised for their dedication

The Kwabre District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr. Iddisah Adams, has praised the management and staff of the district health directorate for what he said was the significant improvement of healthcare delivery in the area.

He said they deserved commendation for the hard work, dedication to duty and high standard of professionalism.

This comes against the background of the district’s rating by the Local Government and Rural Development Ministry as the second best performing in the Ashanti Region in terms of development and improvement of the living conditions of the people.

It also came 9th on the nationwide performance league.

Mr. Adams, speaking at the district’s annual health performance review meeting at Mamponteng, said the various indicators pointed to the fact that they had been doing well in all sectors.

He announced the construction of a maternity ward at the Asonomaso hospital and a Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound at Bosore by the Assembly.

There are also plans to build a general ward for the Mamponteng Health Centre, he said, adding that they would continue to work with all the decentralized institutions to improve service delivery.

Dr. K. Boakye Boateng, District Health Director, said health care delivery was a shared responsibility and applauded chiefs and opinion leaders in the district for their support.

He told the meeting that there had been zero maternal deaths in the area over the past two years running.

At the same time child health care had seen tremendous improvement.

Dr. Boateng said the directorate was working to strengthen its surveillance, monitoring and supervision and set up sub-district data validation teams, alongside an emergency response to the Ebola fever, cholera and any other epidemic outbreak.

He complained about the lack of transportation, inadequate and irregular release of funds and said these were major challenges.

Dr. Imurana Mahama, Medical Superintendent of the Asonomaso Government Hospital, urged health workers to uphold high professional ethics.

The health directorate recognized three traditional rulers – Nana Yaa Pokuaah, Queen of Antoa, Nana Kwakye Berko, Nkosuohene of Asonomaso and Nana Kyerew Akenten, Queen of Mamponteng, for their contribution to health promotion, with citations.
