Mahama sure of leading NDC in 2016

Though the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is yet to begin processes for congress to get a flagbearer for the 2016 elections, its leader John Dramani Mahama has put himself up as the candidate to be elected.

During his address to the people of Sefwi Wiawso in the Western Region to mark the 30th National Farmers Day, President Mahama said he will be back to campaign in the district in 2016, by which time most “critical” roads will be under construction or nearing completion.

“It is my hope that by the time I come around for the 2016 campaign, a lot of the roads will be under construction or nearing completion,” he told the chiefs and people of Sefwi Wiawso on Friday, December 5,

The NDC on September 1, 2012 endorsed President John Dramani Mahama by 99.5 per cent as the party’s candidate in the 2012 elections.

It is likely the former Vice President will stand unopposed again for the 2016 elections.

He told the chiefs of the Western Region that many of the roads be taken a serious look at.

“I know that a major problem in the Western Region is the road network,” he acknowledged.

“During my [2012] campaign, I criss-cross this region and I visited many of the chiefs in the palaces and with any chief I visited when I entered the palace, they welcomed me very warmly [about the deplorable nature of the roads].

“…and, so, we are taking the issue of roads in the Western Region very seriously.”

He assured of a massive cocoa roads programme for the construction of major roads in the country.
