Retired Army Officer Charged With Assault

Accra, (Greater Accra) 7 Oct.,

Nii Osa Odamtten, a retired captain of the army, was today put before a circuit tribunal in Accra, accused of threatening to kill his daughter. Odamtten pleaded not guilty to a charge of threat of death of Miss Abigail Odamtten. The tribunal chaired by Mr. Charles Quist granted him two million cedis bail with one surety to be justified and to re-appear on October 14. It ordered the accused not to interfere with the freedom of his daughter who is staying in the same house with him at La and to restore to her all the utility services cut off. The prosecution told the tribunal that for sometime now the accused wanted to eject the complainant and his brother, Mr. Michael Odamtten from the house and this has created animosity and hatred among them. On September 6 , this year, the accused disconnected the light in the complainant’s room and fuming with anger, told his daughter with threatening words ” I brought you to his earth and I will kill you”. The prosecution said all attempts to settle the case failed because of the intransigence of the accused.
