Ex-convicts Repatriated From Libya

Some 107 Ghanaian ex-convicts including one woman have been repatriated from Tripoli, Libya where they were jailed for various offences. The ex-convicts who were flown to Ghana on a Libyan charted plane after serving jail terms for crimes ranging from drug possession and addiction to alcohol use and distillation.

Forty five of them have already completed their sentences and 40 others will continue with their sentences in Ghana. The rest have amnesty from the Libyan government.

According to the ex-convicts, they were maltreated in jail for minor offences such as alcohol use and fighting. The Ghana Immigration authorities conducted a screening exercise after which they were escorted under tight security in three buses to the Police headquarters for further screening.
