Ghana, Sudan to fight human trafficking

The new Sudanese Ambassador to Ghana, His Excellency Babikir Elsiddig Mohamed Elamin has called for the support of the Ghana Police Service, and for that matter, Ghana to fight Human Trafficking going on at the horn of Africa.

The ambassador said that there are syndicates which perpetrate this crime, adding that the victims are taken to Italy, Israel and other parts of Europe.

H.E. Elamin also said that some of the victims who are trafficked from Somalia, Ethiopia and Eritrea are brought to Ghana in transit to their final destination.

He was, however, full of praise for the Government of Ghana for the peace in the country, adding that visitors to Ghana feel very safe here.

The ambassador also commended the Ghana Police Service for the role it has played and continues to play in bringing peace, law and order to Sudan.

On his part, the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Ahmed Alhassan said the relationship between Ghana Police and Sudan is a long standing one, and that there was the need to even strengthen it.

He extolled the reputation of the Ghana Police Service in the fight against human trafficking, making reference to international recognition in this regard.

Mr. Alhassan added that the Police would intensify their effort in the fight and offer whatever assistance Sudan may need to stamp out the canker.

The IGP also informed the Sudanese Ambassador that the Ghana Police Service was on the verge of deploying a contingent of 170 Formed Police personnel to South Sudan for peacekeeping mission.
