UDS admits 6,334 students for 2014/15 academic year

The University for Development Studies (UDS) has admitted 6,334 students out of the total 18,961 applicants for the 2014/2015 academic year to pursue various undergraduate courses at its four campuses.

The Tamale campus received 1,737 students; Nyankpala campus received 638 students, Navrongo campus, 1,278, and Wa campus, 2,681 with males constituting 60 per cent of the admissions.

The UDS has also admitted 274 students to pursue various graduate programmes for the 2014/2015 academic year.

Professor Haruna Yakubu, Vice Chancellor of UDS, said this in a speech read on his behalf at the 22nd Matriculation ceremony of the university to formally admit students to its 2014/2015 academic year at the Nyankpala campus on Saturday.

The matriculation ceremony was held concurrently at all the other three campuses; Tamale, Navrongo and Wa.

Professor Yakubu said the university had put in place measures to prevent the outbreak of the deadly Ebola virus at all the campuses.

He said the university was undergoing tremendous transformation and growth in terms of infrastructure projects- intended to modernize and improve the capacity of lecture halls, laboratories, teaching and learning facilities for sound academic exercise.

He said the university administration was committed to students’ welfare and would continue to improve the conditions at the hostels on its campuses to ensure a congenial atmosphere for students to pursue their academic work.

He warned students against indulging in social vices such as internet fraud and occultism and advised them to abide by the regulations of the university.
