Unemployed jailed for stealing

A 19-year-old unemployed has been sentenced to three years imprisonment in hard labour by the Akim Swedru Circuit Court for stealing an electric motor valued GH¢2,500.00.

Rockson Kofi pleaded guilty to unlawful entry and stealing.

The prosecution told the court that Mr. Alex Kwadwo Asiedu, who is a senior security officer at the Akim Oda Sawmills Company Limited, is the complainant, while Kofi lives at Akim Oda in the Eastern Region.

That of late the company had been detecting theft from its yard and that on September 3, last year, while Mr Asiedu and other security officers were at post they saw Kofi carrying something in a sack and running away.

According to the prosecution, the security officers managed to arrest the convict and handed him over to the police. When the sack was opened, the company’s electric motor valued at GH¢2,500.00 was found.
