Vegetarian Association postpones festival

The Vegetarian Association of Ghana (VegGhana) on Tuesday announced the postponement of the 42nd International Vegetarian Union (IVU) Festival (Vegfest) due to the outbreak of the Ebola outbreak disease in some West African countries.

VegGhana said in spite of the postponement, the IVU had reserved the right for Ghana to host the event next year, due to the unforeseen circumstances

A statement signed by Dr Kofi Asare, Chairman of the Vegfest Planning Committee, and copied to the Ghana News Agency, in Accra, appealed to members to look at the bigger picture of ensuring public health and safety.

The statement said the Veg Ghana would, however, host its 9th Annual Ghana Veg Fest, on October 24 and 25.

The statement said activities for the Ghana Veg Fest included an official launch of this year’s celebration in the company of key stakeholders.

The association would also embarked on a float, starting from Obra Spot at Kwame Nkrumah Circle, through some principal streets of Accra, to engage the public on the need to lead a healthy lifestyle on October 24.

The statement said on October 25, the association would hold educational seminars, entertainment, exhibitions, great food and family fun, at the Efua Sutherland Park.

VegGhana urged Ghanaians to increase their intake of plant-based foods, which would strengthen their immune systems in general and provide better general health.
