The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation(GNPC), Alex Mould, is demanding accountability from the Ghana Football Association over expenses made on the Black Stars ahead of Ghana’s World Cup campaign.
Mould, who made his first appearance at the Presidential Commission probing Ghana’s participation at the 2014 World Cup disclosed that, the GNPC paid an amount of US$2 million to the FA to fund expenses incurred during the pre-tournament friendlies against Montenegro, Holland and South Korea and the payment of coach Kwasi Appiah and his assistant Maxwell Konadu.
“Funding for the pre-World Cup camping, we advanced them [GFA] 2 million dollars for that,” the former CEO of the Tema Oil Refinery told the Justice Dzamefe-led commission on Tuesday.
Mould added that “just before they went for the World Cup, they had to have two or three friendly matches. I will be surprised that they will be receiving money for matches we are paying for and I will think that there should be full disclosure.”
The statement by Mould contradicts earlier claims by Ghana’s football association that the $1.5 million from FIFA was the only amount used to prepare the Black Stars for the World Cup.
