The Agona Swedru Divisional Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) of the Ghana Police Service has rounded up over 15 drivers for committing traffic offences as part of efforts to check indiscipline on the roads.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ebenezer Ewudze Sackey, Acting Divisional MMTU Commander, made this known to the media on Wednesday at Agona Swedru.
He said the special motor check operation followed by the directives given by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to be carried out reduce carnage on the highways.
DSP Sackey said the drivers committed traffic offences including driving without spare tyres, using of kitchen fire extinguishers, worn-out tyres and defective headlights.
Others offences were holding of photo copy driving licenses, expired licenses, broken windscreens and driving without seatbelts.
He said the nation could no longer afford to lose precious lives almost daily o through negligence on the part of some drivers who had vowed not to obey road traffic regulations.
DSP Sackey said that MTTU personnel at Agona Swedru Divisional Command would not sit down unconcern for reckless drivers to continue to cause panic and fear among passengers.
He said the arrested drivers would be put before court to serve as a deterrent to others.
