Agyepong will fall on his own sword – Sir John

A former general secretary of the New Patriotic Party, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, has told STARR NEWS his successor, Kwabena Agyepong, must tread cautiously or risk “falling on his own sword”.

‘Sir John’ as Owusu Afriyie is popularly known, said Wednesday that the former presidential spokesperson must listen to the grassroots of the party, since are the custodians of the power he wields.

His comment follows a statement by Kwabena Agyepong, dismissing an order by the party’s Constitutional and Legal Committee to reinstate two dismissed officers of the party.

The communications director, Perry Okudzeto, and director of finance, Opare Hammond, were asked to proceed on leave after the new executive, led by Party Chairman Paul Afoko assumed office.

An investigative report by the legal committee chaired by former deputy speaker of parliament, Professor Mike Ocquaye, ordered Kwabena Agyepong to reinstate Perry Okudzeto and Opare Hammond.

But a counter statement signed by Kwabena Agyepong noted that the national executives are not bound to implement a directive of the legal committee.

Speaking to STARR NEWS , Owusu Afriyie likened Agyepong’s obduracy to the fall of former UK premier Margaret Thatcher and the conservative party over similar stubbornness.

He said his successor is digging his own grave through his intractable posture.
