Police arrest women with fake currencies at Sampa

The Sampa Police have arrested 11 women suspected to be transacting business in fake currencies at the Sampa Market in the Jaman North District of the Brong Ahafo Region.

The suspects are, Mamuna Asamoah, Gifty Amoako, Diana Kyerewaa, Akosua Janet, and Esther Agyeiwaa.

The rest are Naomi Owusu, Efua Amissah, Janet Owusu, Esi Ampiah, Joyce Amoako and Celestine Amedume.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Christopher Tawiah, Brong Ahafo Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), who told this to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani, said on Monday, July 28, the suspects went to the Sampa Market with fake GH¢ 20 denominations to purchase goods.

However, some of the traders who were alert detected that the denominations were fake and reported the matter to the police.

ASP Tawiah said some police personnel, consequently, were detailed to the market and arrested the suspects.

About GH¢1,140 suspected to be fake were retrieved from them, he said.

He said the suspects during interrogation admitted the offence and were charged with possessing fake currency without authority.

ASP Tawiah said they had been granted police enquiry bail.
