Some supporters of the New Patriotic Party are accusing the party’s General Secretary, Kwabena Agyapong, of taking a $1 million bribe from President John Mahama to keep the party in opposition.
According to the angry supporters of the opposition party, who besieged the party’s headquarters Tuesday, Agyepong is deliberately taking unpopular decisions just to make the party lose the 2016 general elections.
The NPP has been rocked with confusion following a directive from its chief scribe instructing some party officials including the communications director, Perry Okudzeto, to proceed on leave.
The followers believe the Paul Afoko-led administration is deliberately targeting party officials they suspect are loyal to the 2012 presidential candidate of the party, Nana Akufo-Addo.
A press conference to explain the reasons behind the “proceed on leave directive” turned bloody as angry supporters threatened to kill the general secretary. Three people sustained injuries at the Asylum Down-based offices of the main opposition party in the West African country.
Meanwhile, the chairman Afoko believes the recent furore was engineered by opponents of his administration within the party.
“I know people are deliberately doing this to cause mayhem in the party but believe me, I leave them to God and God will judge them all,” he lamented on Accra-based Asempa FM.
