Wa (Upper West Region) – The leader of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Dr Edward Mahama, has criticised the performance of PNC members of Parliament, saying, their performance so far is unsatisfactory and leaves much to be desired.
He said even though it was the party’s decision that anybody holding a leadership position should not accept any appointment from the NPP government, Moses Dani-Baah, the leader of the PNC Parliamentary caucus violated the decision and accepted the position of Deputy Minister of Health.
Dr Mahama, who was contributing to a discussion on the Upper West Radio monitored by The Evening News at Wa on Tuesday said the offer given to Dani-Baah was not routed through the leadership of the PNC. He said the action taken by Dani-Baah had impacted negatively on the performance of PNC Members of Parliament (MP).
On the performance of the NPP government, Dr Mahama said, “it is a serious disappointment and failure” and called on Ghanaians to show them the exit, come 2004 elections.
He said the current increase in fuel prices was unjustified because “Ghanaians should not be made to pay for the misdeeds and mismanagement of a few, who the government had failed to hold them responsible and accountable.
Dr Mahama said the PNC would not allow itself to be dictated to by the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to bring untold hardship to Ghanaians. He urged Ghanaians to vote the party into power in the next elections to lead the nation to prosperity. He said the NPP had proven incapable of running the country and should be rejected to save the country from total collapse as a result of gross mismanagement.
Asked about efforts being made by the party to wrestle power from the NPP in election 2004, he said organisational works had began at the grassroot level and regional conferences were being held in preparation towards the national conference in March, to put in place the leadership of the party to commence full gear business.
