Rastaman weeps in Court

A middle-aged Rastaman, who stood as surety for a colleague now at large on Thursday shed tears when he was arraigned before a circuit court in Accra.

Emmanuel Martey, amidst tears, pleaded with the Court presided over by Ms Ellen V. Amoah to give him some time to produce Samuel Ardy whom he stood surety for in court.

Martey told the court that he believes Ardy was hiding at Abeka Lapaz and he would surely apprehend him and bring him to court.

Martey’s tears culminated in the court’s cautioning him, stating that standing as a surety was a serious matter before the courts and that it should not be seen as something meant for good Samaritans.

As Martey shed and wipe away his tears, the court told him that it does not deal with emotions, rather its functions were based on law hence must act according to that.

Chief Inspector Charles Chester, the Prosecutor told the court that Martey was arrested and brought to court after a bench warrant was issued to effect his arrest following the non-appearance of Samuel Ardy in court.

According to Chief Inspector Chester, Ardy also stood surety for one Musa Bukari, who was being held for allegedly collecting GH¢ 16,600 from a complainant under the pretext of securing him auctioned cars.

The said Musa Bukari has been on the run for over a year and he was being sought for by the Ministries Police.

The court, however, admitted Martey to bail in the sum of GH¢ 30,000 with two sureties to reappear on August 28.

In addition, the court ordered him to be reporting to the Police every Monday and Wednesday at the Criminal Investigation Department, Ministries Police Station, Accra.
