Three persons on Wednesday appeared before an Accra Circuit Court for possession of firearms without lawful authority at Ashaiman in Accra.
The three Ibrahim Dauda, Solomon Klutsey and Issah Alhassan who pleaded not guilty to the charges were in possession of one orange and black pistol with one live cartridge.
Ibrahim and Solomon were remanded by the court into police custody to reappear on August 6, while Issah was acquitted and discharged by the court for want of prosecution.
The Presiding Judge, Ali Baba said the fact of the case did not link Issah in any way to the commitment of the crime and as such he needs to be a free man. The prosecution has no case against him, he added.
Prosecuting Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Abraham Annor told the court that the complainants in the case are police officers stationed at the Ashaiman District Police. Ibrahim is a Mechanic while Solomon is an Auto Mechanic and Issah is a Drivers mate.
He said on June 18 at about 1000 hours Ibrahim and Solomon were arrested by some informants at Ashaiman night market with the guns. He said the informants after the arrest called the Ashaiman Night Patrol team and handed them over to the police. Issah was picked on different location.
The prosecution said Ibrahim admitted the offence in the caution statement, explaining that he found the pistol on a bench in a nearby bush closer to his house. He showed it to Solomon who became interested to buy it.
DSP Annor told the court that when Ibrahim was showing the pistol to Solomon, the police together with the witness came and arrested them.
