Agona West MCE inspects projects

The re-construction of the bailey bridge on river Akra at Agona Swedru will be completed for use in August this year.

This is because over 80 percent of the work has been completed.

The site engineer of Las Adventuras Construction Firm, Mr Arnold Amponsah, made this known when the Municipal Chief Executive for Agona West, Mr Samuel Oppong, and Mr Charles Obeng-Inkoom, Member of Parliament for Agona West and officials of the Municipal Assembly, inspected on-going development projects within the Municipality.

The government has set aside more than 265,000 Ghana Cedis to re-fix the bridge, and surcharge the company which damaged the original bridge sometime this year.

The company was contracted to undertake the construction of drainage system along the banks of Akora River.

It would be re-called that on February 9 this year, the contractor blasted dynamite to dismantle some rocks in the river, and this incidentally destroyed the bridge.

The destruction of the bridge has since created huge traffic jam at Agona Swedru, affecting economic and social activities in the Municipality.

The MCE and his entourage also inspected the by-pass road from Otabilkrom to Greenland Hotel and Nyamendam to pipe tank, all suburbs of Agona Swedru.

The two road projects are being financed by the World Bank and the Government of Ghana.

Mr Oppong thanked engineers of the Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) for the good work done, and appealed to the chiefs and people of Agona Swedru to co-operate with the contractor to ensure the early completion of the project.

The MCE assured the chiefs and the people that government under President John Mahama was doing everything possible to improve the economic situation in the country.
